NZ Cyclists

Hayden Roulston was excellent getting NZ a silver in the men's 4000 meter pursuit. TVNZ expected him to get a medal. and in the team event he brought home a bronze for our country.

Everyone expected Alison Shanks to get a medal in the women's 4000 meter pursuit, but she came fourth. Still she did pretty good.

Infomation

When did it Start?
Cycling started in the first Olympics in 1936 and it has been going for 72 years.Cycling was first Invented in 1817.

Who Invented Cycling?
In 1690 the Scooter was made. The German Baron Karl von Drais added a padded seat and a steerable front wheel. Then young scottish blacksmith Kirkpatrick MacMillan changed it in 1839, by adding pedals. In the next few years he made several improvments. Children's bikes came out after World War 1. In 1970 James Starley created the bike we have now, with gears and a ariel that allowed the wheel to turn twice as fast as the crank.
